At Sherwood Forest, we try to instill our campers with the spirit of giving. That is why our Leadership campers participate in community service during their summer trips – so they can learn that everyone is capable of giving to others, no matter their own circumstances.
During our Leadership trips, our campers do way more than community service, though. 8th graders travel across Missouri to visit colleges. 9th graders plan and execute a 11-day cross-country trip, visiting college campuses, historical sites, and cultural institutions like the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
In 2019, thanks to the construction of our new Leadership Village, we will be able to serve over twice as many 8th and 9th graders as we did in the past. With additional campers, though, come additional costs.
This year for #GivingTuesday, our goal is to raise $4,000 to cover the transportation costs for our 68 Leadership campers as they embark on trips across the country and learn invaluable skills like teamwork, group decision making, conflict resolution, and independence.
