Over Labor Day Weekend, Sherwood Forest Alumni and supporters gathered at camp to celebrate Mary Rogers as she prepares to retire at the end of the year. The weekend was a chance to honor Mary through her favorite camp rituals – enjoying grilled cheese and tomato soup, story telling, gathering around the campfire, and above all – singing camp songs.
Guests were greeted at camp on Saturday afternoon. Many had not been to camp in years, some since they were last campers or staff. The afternoon was filled with tours, visiting old cabins, sharing stories, and reconnecting with old camp friends.
In the evening, Gary identified a quiet location for the campfire and kicked things off by inviting anyone to come forward and share their favorite camp song. People sang around the campfire until 1 am and returned before the sun was up the next morning.
The Campfire kicked off a season of opportunities to celebrate and honor Mary – check out this post to see more opportunities.
