A true garden has long been something camp staff wanted to achieve and this year we made it happen! Behavioral Health Specialist, Tiffany Carey, has helped to transform the formerly vacant space beside the MAC into a dream vegetable garden. Interestingly, she is using a system of companion gardening, which allows plants like sunflowers, daisies, and even climbing vines to provide nutrients and pest defense to the growing vegetables.
“I saw that they were working on a garden project during Volunteer Trades Weekend this spring and decided to come help,” she shared.
Tiffany’s gardening expertise has not gone unnoticed by campers, who explore the garden every day and excitedly watch its progress. Now being only a few weeks away from its first big harvest, bounty from the new garden will be utilized in outdoor cooking classes.
We’re looking forward to sharing an update on harvest day!
