Time really does fly when you’re having fun! We are now past the halfway mark for camp and have embarked on our extensive outdoor trips with Leadership Training Program campers. Our 9th grade Journey campers went on a college visit to Southeast Missouri State on their way to Memphis and the National Civil Rights Museum.
Back at camp, many groups participated in overnights and lunch cookouts in preparation for backpacking trips outside of camp. Campers and staff are loving the new individual A-frame sleeping systems. Buder Lake has been busy this session; several of our campers have caught smallmouth bass during a fishing activity, campers are trying out stand up paddle boards, and we have some new blue kayaks as well.
The IDEAS and Arts Departments have also been very busy. Campers are designing their own brands of shirts and other items on the computer or with paint. Staff enjoyed Ted Drewes ice cream treats and appreciate all of the goodies Sherwood Forest supporters have sent to the staff lounge!
Our Club Days are also taking place, offering an extended activity period that gives campers more in-depth, hands-on activity time in a specific department area. This allows them to delve deeper into their interests and engage more thoroughly with the activities they love. Some clubs include, Jr. Lifeguard, Music Production, Homesteading, and Beyoncé Bootcamp!
There have been plenty of smiles, letters home, s’mores, yummy food days, National French Fry Day, National Mac n Cheese, National Hot Dog Day, and of course theme days, Disney Day, Hootie Day, and Twin Day. Staff and campers alike have looked forward to this season all year long and we are soaking in every moment of fun!
